Firstly having Vernon Kay in an advert is a red card offense... and a definite reason to stay away. Secondly I have a problem with the heart motif under the flora brand name... misleading to say the least
Okay so as if regular flora was not bad enough they release a new crappy product. Supposedly this is meant to be healthier than olive oil, they claim this has 45% less saturated fat than olive oil. Firstly olive oil is not particularly high in saturated fat, secondly saturated fat is GOOD for you. (Go and read ‘Fat and Cholesterol are Good for You’ by Dr Ravnskov)
Flora claim this is a ‘deliciously healthy approach to everyday cooking’. I’ve not tried this, and I’m not keen to either so I can’t say hoe delicious this is.
Now on to the ingredients
Ingredients
Vegetable Oils (Sunflower Seed Oil, Rapeseed Oil, Linseed Oil),Water ,Salt (0.9%) ,Emulsifiers (Soy Bean Lecithin, Polysorbate 60) ,Preservative (Potassium Sorbate) ,Soy Protein ,Citric Acid ,Stabilisers (Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum) ,Flavourings ,Colour (Beta-Carotene) ,Vitamins A and D
Maybe flora should boast having more ingredients than olive oil too?
Okay so I’ll
focus on the fats;
Sunflower
seed oil is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (about 63% I think) which can
lower good cholesterol, and has minimal omega 3 = BAD CHOICE
Rape
seed oil apparently can be heated ... but is Floras rape seed oil cold pressed?..
dosen’t say so on the packet so this is probably the man made bleach deodorised
version
Linseed
oil supposedly high in omega 3, but is unsuitable for cooking due to
oxidisation.. so no Unilever this product is not suitable for frying roasting
and baking !
Stick to
butter or coconut oil :)
